Therapeutic Riding

Horseback riding for adults and children with disabilities is recognized as one of the more progressive forms of therapeutic recreation. The ability to control a horse as well as one’s own body inspires self- confidence, responsibility and teamwork. Best of all, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which creates a special relationship between rider and horse and promotes personal growth and achievement. Some benefits of equine assisted therapeutic activities include:
  • Increased core muscle tone
  • Increased strength and flexibility
  • Increased self-esteem and self confidence

STEP Program

The Student Transition Enrichment Program is a 6week program designed to help disadvantaged (disabilities, poverty, homeless, broken home) high school students transition from high school to the workforce.

Students will learn the very basic requirements for obtaining and maintaining meaningful employment. They will also learn how to become their own advocate without having to depend on the school system and/or their guardian to communicate their needs. Each work project is designed to give the students the opportunity to plan, design, delegate and supervise. They will learn the valuable aspects of respect, punctuality, responsibility and integrity. We seek sponsorships for each project as well as each student. We also seek mentors for each of these sessions.

“I can’t thank Hope Retreat Ranch enough for what they have done for me and my family.” -Guardian of STEP Program Intern 2017

STEP is a partnership between Hope Retreat Ranch, Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services and Workforce Oklahoma.

Honored Elders

We facilitate occasional outings for senior citizen groups in Eastern Oklahoma County. During a day trip our Honored Elders can tour the ranch, play games, learn all about horses with up-close and personal interactions with our therapy horses and have a picnic.
